Read at the speed of sight. A privacy-first hands-free reading browser for iPhone.
Hands-free reader
Coming soon to the App Store · iPhone
Sway turns supported web pages into a hands-free reading surface. Gaze signals are processed on-device, while touch controls remain available for navigation and interaction.
Privacy Policy
Sway is operated by MKR Group LLC under Wasted Rabbits Studio.
Sway does not require an account and does not include advertising, cross-app tracking, or third-party analytics. Sway does not sell personal information.
With your camera permission, Sway uses Apple's ARKit face tracking and, on equipped devices, the TrueDepth camera. Sway accesses the tracked face's position and orientation, the eyes' positions and orientations, the point the eyes are looking toward, and eyelid-closure and downward-eye-movement values. It also uses tracking status and frame timing. From these inputs, Sway calculates gaze direction, an estimated screen position, face-to-device distance, tracking confidence, and calibration values.
Camera images are processed by Apple's face-tracking framework on your device. Sway does not record camera images, copy or save depth maps or facial meshes, or create a face-recognition template. Camera permission is not required for touch-based browsing.
Sway uses this information only to provide hands-free reading: to scroll forward or backward or hold the page according to gaze direction; to pause or resume scrolling after a deliberate eyes-closed gesture; to adjust gaze calibration and reject unreliable tracking; and to display reading-control indicators. If you enable paused link selection, the same gaze estimate moves a crosshair and selects an ordinary link while scrolling is paused. Link hit testing takes place locally in the app's WebKit environment.
Sway does not use face data to identify or authenticate you, recognize emotions, create a user profile, or perform advertising, marketing, analytics, or unrelated data mining. These are the only uses of face data in Sway; this policy will be updated before materially different practices are introduced.
Sway does not save camera recordings, raw face-tracking measurements, or a history of where you looked. Current gaze estimates, eyelid values, distance, confidence, temporary calibration samples, and other working tracking state are held in app memory. Some working values remain in memory while tracking is stopped so reading can resume; they are released when the owning reading session is released or the app process ends. Sway does not persist these working values to files or a server.
Sway saves one gaze-derived setting between reading sessions: a single numeric vertical calibration offset that corrects the center of gaze scrolling. It is stored in the app's private preferences on your device using Apple's UserDefaults. It is not an image, facial mesh, biometric identity template, or record of eye movements. The setting is retained until it is replaced by recalibration, reset through Reset all settings, or removed when you delete the app.
Sway operates no server or app-managed cloud synchronization for face data or calibration. Your device's backup system may include the saved calibration setting and other app preferences in iCloud or a computer backup, depending on your backup settings. Such backups are managed by you and Apple or your computer, not by MKR Group LLC. Resetting the setting or deleting Sway does not delete copies already present in an existing device backup.
Sway does not send camera images, face-tracking measurements, gaze coordinates, or the saved calibration setting to MKR Group LLC, Wasted Rabbits Studio, advertising platforms, analytics providers, data brokers, or other third-party recipients. Sway does not sell or otherwise disclose this data. Apple provides the on-device ARKit framework; the app does not upload face data to an Apple service. Device backups are the separate user-controlled exception described above.
Websites opened in Sway receive ordinary browsing requests and user-triggered navigation, but Sway does not provide them with its ARKit face measurements, gaze coordinates, or calibration setting. A website may observe scrolling or a link activation in the same way it can observe other browsing interactions. Its own data practices are governed by its privacy policy.
You can decline camera permission and browse by touch. To withdraw camera permission later, open Sway's Settings, choose Privacy & security, then iOS permissions, and turn off Camera in iOS Settings. Leaving the reader or moving Sway to the background stops its face-tracking session. Pausing scrolling by closing your eyes does not stop camera tracking, because Sway continues watching for the resume gesture.
To reset the saved calibration offset, open Settings, then About & support, choose Reset all settings, and confirm Reset settings. This replaces the saved offset with zero; a later hands-free session can learn a new value. Erase local data clears browsing data but does not reset this calibration preference. Using Delete App in iOS removes Sway's local app preferences; offloading the app preserves app data. There are no server-side face-data records for us to delete. Manage or delete existing device backups separately through Apple's or your computer's backup controls.
Saved sites, your Up Next queue, reading progress, reading history, preferences, cookies, and website data are stored locally on your device. If you create a Focus View, Sway stores a text-only article copy for offline reading. The Send to Sway share extension accepts a page address and optional title and keeps them locally until the app imports them into Up Next. You can erase saved pages, Focus Views, website data, and reading history from Settings, Privacy & security, Erase local data. Calibration and other preferences are reset separately as described above.
App Store purchase status is handled by Apple. Sway does not receive your payment-card details.
If you enable Say Click for paused link selection, Sway requests microphone and speech-recognition permission. Audio is processed by Apple's on-device speech recognizer only while the paused selector is visible. Sway accepts the click command, does not save microphone audio or transcripts, and does not use network speech recognition. You can revoke microphone and speech-recognition permissions in iOS Settings.
Pages opened in Sway are provided by independent third parties. Those websites may receive standard web requests and may use cookies or collect information under their own privacy policies. MKR Group LLC does not control their content or data practices.
Do not enter sensitive information on a page unless you trust the website and its connection.
If you contact support, MKR Group LLC uses the information you provide only to respond. This policy will be updated before Sway introduces materially different data practices.
